Teacher Training
This event add-on lead by Julie Brown will help you improve your class planning skills and give you space to practice those skills with other teachers!
October 16th, 6pm - 8pm in the Library at the GSP
Friday will be an intro to class structure and you'll be primed to observe the classes you take over the weekend with teaching in mind. This will help you take note of *how* our instructors are teaching as well as *what* they are teaching. Topics will include:
-
Different ways of teaching something, including providing different "access points" for students
-
Visual & physical assessment skills / assessing what students need
-
Class goals & approaches for different levels
-
Tactics for teaching all-levels classes & teaching to multiple levels in one class
-
Classroom vibes, logistics & physical setups
-
Culture, history, sources, and pedagogy stemming from cultural values in classes
October 19th, 1pm - 4pm at 1921 Poplar Street
On Monday you will review what you observed over the weekend and have a class building session with a chance to practice what you've learned. If we get enough interest we may even extend this session for an hour and talk about building curriculum. Topics will include:
-
Review of observations from the weekend, go deeper / address questions on the topics from Friday, based on your observations
-
Reflecting on / creating your teaching values
-
Practice building classes and exercises
You do not need to attend any other part of Muse to attend this teacher training.
